Hypersense Tweet 10/6

Designing the Behavior of Interactive Objects This reading reminds me of the reading on phenomenology that I presented last week. They both focus on how to make objects more relatable to people (in my reading it was AI and robots). In fact, on page 71, the writers refer to pragmatic…

Hypersense Tweet 9/29

Phenomenology I thought this reading was harder than past readings, but it still contained a lot of interesting material. I was surprised by the number of things that can affect our sense of being; but, once I started reading on different theories, I could not help but feel that there are many more influences the paper could have explored. For example, culture, race, religion, and gender are all things that can affect self-being and perhaps even change! If a person changes their religion or culture, how does their self being change? I felt that many of the approaches to phenomenology described are incomplete. Husserl stated that all consciousness is intentional, but I am not quite ready to accept that.

Introduction to Myself: My name is Jason and I am a senior in mechanical engineering. Currently I live in Pittsburgh, but I am originally from Atlanta. I am in the Carnegie Mellon Racing team, University Orchestra, and debate team. This class appeals to me, because it opens my eyes to other factors in design other than a very linear technical perspective that most engineers have.
